Huipil Tehuana - 23" W x 21" L
Vintage Tehuana Huipil - $180
23" W x 21" L
Multi-color flowers with purple and white Cadenilla embroidery on black satin
This huipil displays two techniques of embroidery: Cadenilla (the cross stitch pattern made with a foot peddled Singer chain-stitch sewing machine), and Bordado (satin stitch embroidery, considered to be the most time-consuming technique of the various types of embroidery found on Tehuana huipiles).
These hand embroidered, one of a kind huipiles (blouses) are worn by the women of Oaxaca (Tehuanas) both as daily wear, on special occasions, and in ceremony. Frida Kahlo often wore these colorful garments to honor the traditional hand crafts of indigenous Mayan women.
Express your own style. Rock it with jeans and boots, looks great with pencil skirt, broomstick skirt, capris, even a business suit. Perfect for an evening event, or casual afternoon outing.
Please note that the photo with the headpiece is for display; it may not be available if sold. However, there are more available. Each one is unique.
Because these items are hand-crafted by local artisans using traditional techniques, slight variations may occur. Note that colors may vary according to each display monitor.
