This dress made of green cotton (manta) features large, multi-colored,  embroidered flowers on the front. It has two inch slits on both sides at the hem.

This embroidery is created by starting with hand drawing the unique design. Then using a manual sewing machine, the artist embellishes the design with artistically chosen colors and flourishes, creating a one of a kind piece of wearable art.

Chiapas dresses are hand-made by the local Maya women artisans in Chiapas, located in southern Mexico. Though fashioned in a contemporary style, these dresses include embroidered designs rooted in local history and mythology, linking deep cultural traditions to the modern world. In this matriarchal society, the women play a crucial role in the economy through the creation of these beautiful garments.
