In keeping with its vintage nature, the indigo in this garment has aged to a soft, sky blue. Adding to its character, there are a few repairs, and a couple of minor stains. The white patterns in this textile reflect a butterfly motif.

This poncho can be worn in the traditional fashion with the v-neck in the front, or give it a 180 degree twist and it takes on a whole new shape. Add some extra pizazz by turning it on a diagonal. It can also be easily converted into a ruana by simply opening the front seam. You can really have some creative fun when you put your own stamp on it by adding a variety of accessories -- looks good with a scarf, necklace, or whatever inspiration strikes you.

Made of handwoven cotton, this medium weight textile is very soft. The rich blue color is obtained through a complex, time consuming dying process using a dye made from leaves of the indigo plant which are dried, then fermented and blended with ash and residue from the old vats. Each piece results in a unique shade of blue, based on a number of variables involved in the intricate dying process. White designs are achieved through dye resistant techniques. Dying fabric with indigo is a longstanding tradition. Before the advent of synthetic dyes, the highly prized indigo fabric was a sign of prestige and abundance throughout Africa, and the dying process a guarded secret.

Due to the way strip cloth is assembled, it is natural that over time some areas along the seams may separate. It is minor imperfections such as these that imbue these vintage, collectible textiles with unique character, shaping the individual personality of each piece.
