This traditional Telar dress from Chiapas, Mexico is handwoven in black cotton with dark pink accents forming geometric designs, filling the front and back. This dress is richly woven. The neckline is a very flattering squared off v-shape. Multi-colored embroidery in an intricate floral motif wraps around the neck, both front and back, cascading down into a v-shape at the bottom. On the front, there are two rows of this same beautiful embroidery near the hem. The hem ends in a lush black fringe, six inches long, with five rows of knotting.

Chiapas dresses are hand-made by the local Maya women artisans in Chiapas, located in southern Mexico. Though fashioned in a contemporary style, these dresses include embroidered designs rooted in local history and mythology, linking deep cultural traditions to the modern world. In this matriarchal society, the women play a crucial role in the economy through the creation of these beautiful garments.
