This dress is made of black cotton (manta). A large ruffle featuring a wide crocheted lace trim graces the neckline of this peasant style dress all the way around front and back. The neck ruffle is embellished with multi-colored, embroidered flowers on the front. A horizontal strip of the same embroidery also appears near the hem.
This embroidery is created by starting with hand drawing the unique design. Then using a manual sewing machine, the artist embellishes the design with artistically chosen colors and flourishes, creating a one of a kind piece of wearable art.
Perfect for an evening event, or casual afternoon outing. Express your own style. This dress can be treated as a tunic and paired with leggings or a skirt. Change up the look with a belt or sash. It would look great worn off the shoulder, fiesta style.
Chiapas dresses are hand-made by the local Maya women artisans in Chiapas, located in southern Mexico. Though fashioned in a contemporary style, these dresses include embroidered designs rooted in local history and mythology, linking deep cultural traditions to the modern world. In this matriarchal society, the women play a crucial role in the economy through the creation of these beautiful garments.
Because these items are hand-crafted by local artisans using traditional techniques, slight variations may occur. Note that colors may vary according to each display monitor.
